Contemporary Book of Hours

My calligraphy mentor, Carol Pallesen of the Silent Hand Scriptorium, taught me this book form.  I am making one to use as a funeral sign in and memory book at Claudette’s services on Tuesday.  The pages are Arches Text Laid painted with Pelikan Plaka casein paint which are waterproof when dry.  That will come in handy as the cleansing tears are sure to fall.  The leather cover is a beautiful tactile feel and makes you want to hold on to it.

I also thought I would fold up some origami cranes from kaleidoscope wraping paper.  Claudette loved and collected artist kaleidoscopes of all kinds.

This is the least I can do.  I am feeling powerless right now.contemporary-book-of-hours
